Camel Safari
The classic way to meet the Thar. A camel safari is part of every stay, setting off from behind the camp and climbing the dunes in time for sunset. It is slow, quiet and suitable for most ages.

Things to do at the camp
Camel and jeep safaris, ATV rides, parasailing and folk evenings, all starting from our camp on the Sam Sand Dunes.
Camel and jeep safaris start right from the back of the camp. Activities marked Included in package are part of every stay. Those marked On request can be arranged during your visit, so ask us about availability and charges when you book.

A 4x4 jeep takes you dune bashing over the crests and hollows of the sand: fast, bumpy and a lot of fun. It also covers more ground than a camel if you want to see further into the desert.

Quad bikes give you the controls. A short ride over the dunes is one of the most popular add-ons for younger travellers and groups of friends.

Towed by a vehicle across open ground, parasailing lifts you above the desert for a bird’s-eye view of the dunes and scrubland around Jaisalmer.

Every evening, folk artists perform Rajasthani music and dance in the courtyard, followed by a campfire, a vegetarian Rajasthani buffet dinner and a DJ party.

For a special occasion, we set up a private candle-light dinner out on the dunes: just you, the stars and a quiet desert night.

A camel ride is slower and quieter; a jeep is faster and covers more of the dunes. Many guests do both. Our guide to camel safari vs jeep safari in Jaisalmer compares them side by side, and our Sam Sand Dunes guide explains how an evening at the dunes usually unfolds.
